Andy A., The Coin Vault Television Host/Limited Shareholder
As the oldest of the Abel brothers, Andy officially began his full-time tenure at SilverTowne in March of 2005. With a small time period in between where he stepped away to pursue other interests, he returned full steam ahead in April of 2011 when silver hit nearly $50 an ounce and the business needed every bit of help it could garner. Although his “official” time here at SilverTowne has been influential to say the least, he has grown up in this business and has seen more coins in his young age than most of us will see in a lifetime.
Favorite Part of His Job: “When a coin comes in and it is delivered to me, the minute we put it on air and that feeling takes hold that I know we can sell as many as we can get out hands on; that’s the most exciting part of the job. It’s the sell.”
Biggest Changes Over the Years: “The way we buy coins. The old way, we never turned down buying any coin. It didn’t matter what it was. Now we have become much more strategic in how we buy them and why.”
Greatest Memory: “While I was working at the front counter, I was working with this customer from Northern Indiana whose name was Bill. This was during the later years when Grandpa was still actively in the shop but he wasn’t doing as well as previous years. So I was working with this man and Grandpa came up behind me and grabbed my shoulder and said, “Andy, give him whatever he wants. He’s good for it.” Watching the way that man reacted was something I’ll never forget. He looked on the edge of tears because it meant so much to him that my grandfather would take the time to acknowledge him. Seeing how much it meant to Bill was fantastic. That’s how much of a presence my grandfather had with people and this business.”
On Current Position Versus Previous: “There is no other position within this building that I would rather be in than the one I’m in right now.”
What Excites Him the Most For the Future: “I’m excited about being part of a team with everyone here and making new decisions to take SilverTowne to a place it’s never been before.”
Another Memory? (He was really excited about this one): “The Welker day. Everyone who was working here during that time will know exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life. Like I was on the floor belly laughing to the point where the next day it felt like I had done 1,000 crunches.”
Favorite Period of Music: “The mid-1990’s. The music that was made while I was in high school takes me back to the fondest of memories.” (Referenced: All Eyez On Me Album by Tupac)
